• Pudgy Penguins has teamed up with LOL Land to launch Pengu Wonderland, a map featuring Asian landmarks and NFTs licensed from regional holders.
  • The game’s design makes Web3 gaming more approachable, allowing people to play without a crypto wallet while still showcasing NFT and token integration.
  • LOL Land now has over 600k monthly players, with Pudgy’s Asia team and YGG highlighting the importance of culture and community in Web3 gaming.

The fast-growing Web3 gaming industry in Asia has seen another boost with the release of a Pudgy Penguins-themed map for the browser-based game LOL Land.

Pudgy Penguins, the prominent memecoin/NFT collection, has made a significant cultural impact both on and off the chain, with utility for holders continuing to increase. Alongside selling physical toys online and in-store, Pudgy’s branding team has emphasised giving NFT/token owners additional use cases.

This has manifested in LOL Land, where specific NFTs from Asian owners were licensed and brought to life in the new map, titled Pengu Wonderland.

New Map to Highlight Important Asian Landmarks

Pudgy Wonderland, beyond representing the popular NFT collection, also depicts several Asian landmarks – including Shanghai TV Tower, HSBC Building, the Phillippine jeepney and the Taipei 101.

Structured like a board game, LOL Land caters to ‘casual degens’. A key to the title’s success is its accessibility. Most Web3 games can struggle to reach widespread appeal as they require the connection of a self-custodial wallet, the purchase of specific NFTs or a native token.

LOL Land, on the flipside, lets gamers enjoy the Pudgy Wonderland map – among others – without needing a crypto wallet at all. While these players don’t receive potential gameplay awards, such as NFTs and YGG tokens, it lowers the barrier to entry for the up-and-coming Web3 game.

Web3 Gaming in Asia A Focus as LOL Land Boasts Half a Million Users

Since YGG unveiled LOL Land, the game has attracted over 600k monthly users, with nearly 70k active daily users.

The team behind Pudgy Penguin’s Asian arm, Igloo APAC, stressed the importance of Web3 representation in Asia.

Pengu Wonderland is a celebration of what makes both our communities special…It highlights the richness of Asian culture and our growing cultural footprint in Asia. This collaboration comes at a perfect time as LOL Land’s fun and accessible gameplay will help us connect with more players in the Web3 gaming space.

Co-founder of YGG, Gabby Dizon, spoke to the significance of community representation in gaming, a key selling point for using NFTs in the new era of gaming.

It’s been great to see community members from Pengu Asia be featured in LOL Land as their NFTs…Games have always been about community, which is why community-owned IP makes so much sense, especially when OverpassIP enables Pudgy Penguins and Lil Pudgy holders to earn when we license their IP. I’m going to be first in line to play the new map!
