Blockchain has taken art to the next level. Artist Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm and art-tech team ARTificial Mind created AI and blockchain art on the International Space Station (ISS). It’s the first artwork ever to operate from space while it orbits the Earth on NASA’s spacecraft.

“All of the data gathered from the software will create a series of digital tokens and AI-generated space images seeded from space radiation that the AI algorithm harvests aboard the ISS,”

Falkenstrøm told Forbes.

The artwork is a hybrid AI-Blockchain algorithm and uses data from cosmic radiation aboard the ISS to create digital tokens and space images, according to the Celestium webpage.

The outer space artwork is interactive: there is a 1000×1000 pixel canvas you can contribute to that will be sent to space in March 2022. You will then receive a Celestium token and can exchange it for real asteroids as NFTs.

“This enables everybody to have ownership of a little part of the universe in a digital world. I believe the artwork scrutinizes questions about democratization and decentralization of space and will spark a conversation about how human actions in space can transform the quality of life of all of humanity, instead of serving as more wealth for the few,”

said Falkenstrøm.

Space tokens can be collected until the 15th of February. You can read more about the project and see the artwork here.
