Just five years ago, everybody was extremely skeptical about TikTok. Nobody believed that an app in which people dance and make funny faces could become the third-largest social network. Because of a number of reasons, such as lockdowns, the “stars aligned” for TikTok.

The same situation may happen with metaverses. A study done by Gartner projects  that people will spend at least an hour in the metaverse by 2026. Indeed, quite soon!

The president of Gartner commented on this:

“From attending virtual classrooms to buying digital land and constructing virtual homes, these activities are currently being conducted in separate environments. Eventually, they will take place in a single environment – the metaverse – with multiple destinations across technologies and experiences.”

On the other hand, there are various kinds of metaverses. The term itself became vague, because of overuse by various crypto projects. Thus, we need clearer definitions for metaverses. For example, if Facebook is becoming a multiverse, it will become true. On the other hand, if a metaverse is defined as only a crypto game, the predictions may not come true.
